HISTORICAL TRAUMA BEHIND HIGH SUICIDE STATS An expert in indigenous suicide says the crown was told 30 years ago of the links between colonisation and Maori suicide and chose to ignore it. She says colonisation disconnects whanau from their whakapapa, their land, their cultural knowledge and their language, adding up to massive historical trauma...... www.waateanews.com/waateanews/x_story_id/MTgwNzc.html

But...maori are NOT indigenous, and even if they were ( which they're not) they are all mixed blood...some with only a teaspoon of maori blood or less, still call themselves maori. Always someone else's fault....that will never change. The average life expectancy of maori pre-Treaty was late 20's, early 30's ( from memory) so how about a bit of appreciation for the Europeans?
