LAST IWI TO SETTLE CLAIMS IN TARANAKI GETS MANDATE TO START TREATY TALKSThe last iwi group in Taranaki to settle its treaty grievances now has the mandate to begin negotiations with the Crown. Te Runanga o Ngati Maru received 91 per cent support from its members to be the group which represents them and chairman Holden Hohaia said the Crown signed off the mandate earlier this week. The next step is to form a team of negotiators and Hohaia said an invitation had been sent out to the entire iwi to encourage people to get involved. Currently, there are 1777 registered members of Ngati Maru. www.stuff.co.nz/taranaki-daily-news/78445418/last-iwi-to-settle-claims-in-taranaki-gets-mandate-to-start-treaty-talks
