TOKM HANDS DIVIDEND TO IWIMāori fisheries settlement trust Te Ohu Kaimoana will give up the dividend it receives from Moana Fisheries and pass it on to iwi on a population basis. This year that share will be about $1.7 million of the total $8.6 million dividend. MĀORI FISHERIES ACT CHANGES ON HOLD The Fisheries Minister has told iwi he can’t make the changes they want to the Māori fisheries settlement because New Zealand First is blocking it. Last year’s annual meeting of Te Ohu Kaimoana voted in favour of recommendations coming from a ten-year review to give iwi more direct control of the trust and to distribute to them most of the financial reserves it has built up.
