CALL FOR MORE LEGAL PROTECTION OF MĀORI CULTURAL PROPERTY RIGHTSA law change is urgently needed to prevent non-Māori artists using Māori faces and traditional facial tattoos, says an expert in Māori cultural property rights. She said non-Māori artists simply needed to ask the Māori they were seeking to depict for permission, or the hapū or iwi whose designs they were wanting to use.
