Hello fellow New Zealander, WE NEED YOUR HELP.As you may be aware, a number of District Health Boards are introducing policies which will prioritise Maori and Pasifika patients on elective surgery waiting lists. These patients are already assessed on clinical need and we believe they should be treated based solely on that assessment, not ethnicity. Democracy Action has launched a petition to tell the Government of our grave concerns about this race-based policy. We urge you to sign the petition and forward it to your family and friends to sign. Here is the key message of the petition: “Democracy Action strongly opposes the decisions of District Health Boards to prioritise Maori and Pacific patients on elective surgery waiting lists. We believe priority should be based on clinical urgency and the time a patient has waited, not their race. When someone is bumped up the list, someone else must be shifted down.” PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION HERE > tinyurl.com/y4cgxv98 Thank you. Lee Short democracyaction@xtra.co.nz
